Paws for Pause

More than 50 dogs and their owners gathered in Waterfront Park on Sunday afternoon September 14th to “paw-tition” City leaders: Stop the Pump, Save the Park.

Each pup placed a front paw on a petition opposing the construction of a massive industrial pump station in the city’s most visible green space. Their owners then signed their names in support of preserving grass, trees, and open space for the community.

“ I love coming to this park, smelling the grass and resting under the trees. Please don’t pave over the park and cut down the trees,” said Pookie, a very sweet but concerned dog owned by Janice Hobert. After signing, the dogs happily washed the ink from their paws and played together while owners discussed alternative sites for the pump station.
